Ethics, Privacy and Data Protection

Trilateral Research’s Ethics, Privacy and Data protection team leads and contributes to a number of European and international projects on ethics, privacy and data protection. Within this field, our expertise lies in the provision of:

  • Research services relating to ethical impact assessment, privacy (and data protection) impact assessment, privacy certification, big data, privacy by design, ethical and privacy issues in emerging technologies etc.
  • Policy and regulatory advice (e.g. major study for the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on privacy impact assessment and risk management; study for the European Commission on understanding the socio-economic impact of eight changes in the proposed Data Protection Regulation),
  • Technology assessment (e.g. privacy and data protection issues related to use of civil drones)
  • Stakeholder engagement and dissemination (e.g., event management, speed networking, multi-project symposiums, demonstrations, project websites, social media and publishing).

Trilateral coined the term “ethical impact assessment”, and is a leader in ethical impact assessment methodology. The team has significant experience of providing services related to ethics, privacy and data protection in relation to areas such as security, surveillance, crisis and disaster management, and data science. The Trilateral team’s expertise covers law, politics, science and technology studies, sociology, socio-cultural anthropology, business management and marketing.
